Heidegger – The Question

Just begun to grapple with Heidegger’s ‘The Question Concerning Technology’ written in 1949. It’s available here as a .pdf and with a useful commentary here. Some background on Heidegger as philosopher and fanatic supporter of the Nazi’s is in a video here.

His work, completed high up on a hillside in the black forest and his tendency towards a peasant existance, reinforce his insistence on rootedness as a sense of the authentic, truth. Most of us live a life of ‘one’ – ‘one does this, one does that’. But the ‘I’ is not ‘one’. He said this in the 1920’s before mass consumerism really did create us as ‘ones’ before we did lose a sense of I.
